Dr. Shiva Kumar is the co-founder and director of Bhashini AI Solutions Pvt Ltd where they are developing state-of-the-art text to speech synthesis (TTS) for Indian languages.

Prior to this, he worked at IBM India Software Labs for 15+ years on core product development in compilers, JavaEE servers and IBM Cloud. His work on open source JavaEE server - Apache Geronimo earned him the coveted Committer status in Apache Geronimo in 2007. The impact of his work with IBM clients fetched him the IBM Client Value Outstanding Technical Achievement Award in 2016.

Shiva Kumar pursued his Ph.D. from Dept. of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. As part of his research work, he developed high performance optical character recognition (OCR) and Text to Speech (TTS) systems for Kannada and Tamil languages. The impact of these systems in making printed Kannada/Tamil books accessible to blind students won him awards at national level (Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award 2015) and South Asia level (Manthan Award 2014 and 2015).
